RightCourse™ Support

Q: How can I optain technical support for RightCourse™?

A: Access our Product Support Forums where you will find a specific section to post RightCourse™ Support Questions. The forum is actively moderated by our RRT technical support staff.

Q: I receive a message saying "No MP3 Encoder was found. Please upgrade Windows Media® Player or purchase a third-party MP3 encoder." What should I do?

A: If you receive this message, it means one of two things. Either you do not have an MP3 encoder on your system, or a program, such as Roxio® Easy CD Creator, has disabled your MP3 encoding abilities.

If you do not have an MP3 encoder, download the latest version of Microsoft® Windows Media® Player from microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/

If you do have an MP3 encoder, it is likely that a program has disabled the MP3 encoding abilities. To determine if this is the case, go to Control Panel. If the Control Panel is in category view, choose Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices then Sound and Audio Devices or Sound and Audio Devices if it is in Classic View.
Switch to the Hardware tab. In the listbox, highlight the Audio Codecs and click the Properties button. In the Audio Codec Properties window, switch to the Properties tab. If the installed MPEG Layer-3 Codec says something like "(decode only)" you will not be able to encode MP3s. If this is the case, click the Remove button to remove the codec.
Now you will need to reinstall a working codec. To do this, simply double-click on any MP3 file. Windows Media® Player will prompt you to install the codec for MP3s. After completing this operation, MP3 encoding will work in RightCourse™.

Q: What audio file formats does RightCourse™ support?

A: Currently, RightCourse™ will allow you to include MP3 and WAV audio files.

Q: How can I rotate an image?

A: To rotate an image, enter the Image Editor by right-clicking on an image and choose Edit Image... On the menu, click the Rotate button. From here, you will be given some predefined rotations as well as the ability to rotate at an arbitrary angle.

Q: What does the Clean Up feature of the Media Library do?

A: Whenever you load a multimedia file into RightCourse™, it adds it to the Media Library. Sometimes, there may be items in the Media Library that are no longer in use or were never used. To reduce the size of the RCF file, RightCourse™ allows you to "clean up" the Media Library by removing any items that are not being referenced by a slide. To do this, you click the Clean Up button when in the Media, Audio, or Image library.

Q: How do I upload my training to RightTrack™

A: After you have completed your training, go to the File menu and choose Export, then RightTrack Export... In addition to the standard training options, you must also specify your login information for RightTrack™. The Customer ID is the subdomain you use to login to RightTrack™. For example, if you use mycompany.myrighttrack.com, mycompany would be your Customer ID. Additionally enter your login and password.

If the login succeeds, you will be prompted to either create a new course or overwrite an existing one. Note: If you choose to overwrite an existing course, and someone is currently in the middle of the course, the progress will be cleared. After you enter the course details, the course will be uploaded and available for assigning to a Training Group within RightTrack™

Q: How do I add more voices to RightCourse™?

A: RightCourse™ makes use of the standard Microsoft Windows™ Text-to-speech (TTS) features known as the Speech API (SAPI). Therefore, if you install additional voices in Windows, they will be available in RightCourse™ as well (you will need to restart RightCourse™ after installing a new voice). You can find several additional voices to install both for free as well as for purchase.

Q: How can I import a Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation into RightCourse™?

A: RightCourse™ makes loading a Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation easy. To begin with, you must have Microsoft® PowerPoint® 2003 or newer installed on your system. If you do, under the File menu you will see an option called Import... Choose this option. If you already have a RightCourse™ training open, you will be asked if you would like to append the Microsoft® PowerPoint® slides to the end of this training, or whether you would like to create a new presentation.

After you choose whether or not you want a new presentation, you will be asked which file (a PPT file) you would like to include, and also how you want to import the information. RightCourse™ gives you two import options. You can import the information as Slides with Bullets. If you choose this option, RightCourse™ will attempt to read your Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation and import its text into RightCourse™ slides. It will take the title, subtitle and bullets off of the PowerPoint® slide. It will also take any Speaker Notes and convert them to spoken narrative. Additionally, it will choose one of the images from the slide and assign it to the slide title (all images will be stored in the Media Library so you can change them at any time). Additionally, you can also import it as Screenshots. In this case, RightCourse™ will take a picture of each PowerPoint® slide and load that picture onto each slide in RightCourse™. Use this option if you simply want to take an existing PowerPoint® presentation and load it into the RightTrack™ Learning Management System (LMS) to be able to track who took your training, without requiring any additional effort.

Q: What do I do if I would like to use a professional voice over talent?

A: To make your training as professional as it can possibly be, you may want to hire a professional voice over talent to supply the spoken text foryour training. RightCourse™ makes this simple and easy. After you have created your training, simply go to the File menu and go to Export... Choose the Narrative Export... option. This will produce a textfile with all of the spoken narrative from your training. Send this file to your voice over talent. Each item begins with a separate number, for example, 2.3 would be the third audio recording for slide 2. This makes it easy to load the audio into RightCourse™ once you receive it.

Q: What are the Incorrect Actions I can choose for a question?

The incorrect action specifies what will happen if the user gets the question wrong. These options are used when you upload your training into the RightTrack™ Learning Management System (LMS). The following options are available:

  • Next: The user will go to the next question in the question group. If this is the last question in the group, he/she will go to the next Slide or Question Group.
  • Review: This is what you specify if you would like the person to review the slides associated with your Question Group if he/she answers that question incorrectly. After reviewing the specified slides, the trainee will return to the next question in the Question Group.
  • Reset: If the question is answered incorrectly, it will restart the person at the location specified in the Question Group.
  • Fail: If an incorrect answer is given, the person will fail the course and need to retake it at a later date.
  • Repeat: The question will be repeatidely shown to the trainee until the correct answer is given.

Q: What do I need to enable CD/DVD burning in RightCourse™?

When using the HTML export feature of RightCourse™, you have the option to burn your training to a CD or DVD. However, this feature requires an update to Windows®. If you are running Microsoft® Windows® Vista, you already have the necessary software. However, if you are running Windows® XP, or Windows® Server 2003, you will need to install the KB932716 update from Microsoft®. After you install this update, restart your computer. You will now see the CD/DVD burning options in the HTML export feature.
